A skin tag, known clinically as an acrochordon, is a small benign growth of skin attached by a narrow stalk. Skin tags most often appear where skin folds or rubs: the neck, underarms, eyelids, under the breasts, and along the groin.
They are harmless. They do not become cancerous, and they do not require treatment for medical reasons. Patients have them removed because they catch on clothing and jewelry, become irritated, or simply because they do not want them.

Small tags are typically treated with electrocautery, which severs the stalk and seals the base in the same motion. Larger or pedunculated tags may be removed by fine snip excision, and some lesions respond well to cryotherapy.
The area is numbed first. Each individual tag takes only a minute or two, and several can be treated in one appointment.
Not every small growth is a skin tag. Seborrheic keratoses, warts, moles, and a small number of malignant lesions can look similar to a patient and sometimes to an untrained eye.
For that reason, every lesion is examined by a physician at Everis Aesthetic Medicine before anything is removed. If a growth has features that warrant further evaluation, we will say so and refer you rather than treat it as cosmetic.
